Volkswagen is planning to launch a new 3-row SUV in India at the end of the year. Volkswagen Tayron was recently spotted testing in India for the first time. The test mule was fully undisguised. The Tayron will be a successor to the Tiguan Allspace and will sit above the Tiguan R-Line in the automaker’s Indian portfolio. It will be brought to India via the CKD route.

Volkswagen Tayron: What to expect?
The Volkswagen Tayron takes design inspiration from the newly-launched Tiguan R-Line. The SUV stands at dimensions of 4,735mm x 1,859mm x 1,682mm. It is 197mm longer, 17mm wider, and 43mm taller than the Tiguan. It gets sleek LED headlamps and DRLs along with black trims on the grille. The air dam on the lower bumper has a mesh design.
The SUV rests on 19-inch alloy wheels. An R badge is placed below the rear-view mirror, which leads us to believe that the SUV will get an R-Line variant. At the back, the wraparound LED tail lamps are different from the ones on the Tiguan. These tail lamps are connected by an LED light bar.
No spy shots of the interior of the Volkswagen Tayron have surfaced yet. We expect it to rock the same instrumentation as the international model. The SUV will come with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. There will be Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support onboard. Other features will include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 3-zone climate control, wireless charging, a Level 2 ADAS suite, and more. The SUV will offer a 345-litre boot space. With the third row seats collapsed, this boot space increases to 850 litres.
The Volkswagen Tayron will share its powertrain with the Tiguan. This means it will get the 2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 204hp and 320Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The AWD configuration sends the power to all four wheels.

Final Thoughts
Since the Volkswagen Tayron will be imported to India as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit, it will be more affordable than the Tiguan R-Line. The latter is a Completely Built Up (CBU) import. The Tayron will be assembled locally at Volkswagen’s Aurangabad plant. Upon launch, it will rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Toyota Fortuner.
