The Volkswagen Tayron is set to launch in India in the first quarter of 2026, a year after its European launch. Volkswagen India has taken the wraps off the upcoming 7-seater SUV ahead of its introduction in the market. The Tayron will sit at the top of the automaker’s Indian catalogue, ranking above the Tiguan SUV. Like the Tiguan, the Tayron will be launched in a single R-Line variant.

The Volkswagen Tayron is a spiritual successor to the now-discontinued Tiguan Allspace. It stands at dimensions of 4,735mm x 1,859mm x 1,682mm, making it 197mm longer, 17mm wider, and 43mm taller than the Tiguan. It has a 2,789mm wheelbase. The India-spec Tayron looks identical to its global counterpart. The R-Line variant gets exclusive badging. The SUV has a bold look, highlighted by a firm stance, strong character lines, and stylish 19-inch ‘Coventry’ diamond-turned alloy wheels. It flaunts illuminated VW logos at the front and back, IQ.LIGHT LED Matrix headlamps and wraparound tail lamps.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line boasts a clean and minimal interior look. The horizontal dashboard features a new 15-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. The front seats are draped in premium Varenna leather upholstery. They are equipped with ergoActive Plus technology, 10-point pressure massage, and active ventilation. As mentioned earlier, the Tayron is a 7-seater SUV. With the third row folded, it has 850 litres of boot space. The large panoramic sunroof brings in lots of sunlight for all three rows.
Volkswagen has not revealed the powertrain specs of the India-spec Tayron R-Line. The global model is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces a maximum power output of 217hp and 350Nm of torque, and is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The regular variants put out 184hp and 320Nm.
Mr Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “We’re pleased to introduce the Tayron R-Line to India so soon after its global debut, backed by strong European recognition and awards for safety and family appeal. The Tayron R-Line is not just about size, but presence. It is designed to feel strong and protective on the outside, while offering a calm, spacious environment inside. Every line and material reflects modern German luxury: purposeful, precise, and premium.”

Volkswagen’s flagship SUV in India could fetch up to Rs 50 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, and Skoda Kodiaq.
