Volkswagen Taigun & Virtus get RDE-compliant engines, new features

Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus have been updated with RDE-compliant engines. The two VW offerings also get new features on several variants. Both vehicles are now E20 compliant. The upcoming BS6 Phase II norms will be valid from April. Due to engine upgrades, Volkswagen has hiked the prices of all its cars by 2%.

Volkswagen Taigun & Virtus: New engines and features

Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus come in the same powertrain options. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 150Nm and 250Nm peak torque. Meanwhile, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine churns out a maximum power of 115hp and 178Nm peak torque. The figures put out by the new engine will not change after the update. The 1.0-litre engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre engine comes with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG transmission options.

The Highline variant of the 1.0-litre TSI Dynamic Line of Volkswagen Taigun now gets auto headlights with the ‘follow me home’ feature. The same feature has been made available on the GT variant of Virtus’ 1.5-litre TSI Performance Line. Previously, this feature was only available on the top-spec variants of the two vehicles. Volkswagen Virtus also gets rear fog lamps as standard across all variants. 

Both cars come with safety features like six airbags, ABS, EBD, rearview camera, electronic stability control, hill-hold control, multi-collision brakes, and tyre pressure deflation warning. Volkswagen Taigun scored 5 stars in the updated Global NCAP tests last year. The Virtus scored 5 stars in Latin NCAP tests.

Conclusion

Prices for the Volkswagen Taigun currently start at Rs 11.56 lakh in India, while the Virtus starts at 11.32 lakh. Both cars will undergo a 2% price hike in April. Volkswagen Taigun rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, and Hyundai Creta. Volkswagen Virtus rivals Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
