India-manufactured Volkswagen Taigun scores 5 stars in Latin NCAP tests

India-made Volkswagen Taigun has scored a 5-star rating from the Latin NCAP in the most recent round of testing. The Latin American model of the Taigun is manufactured and exported from India. Volkswagen’s midsize SUV previously gained a 5-star rating from the Global NCAP as well. Last year, Volkswagen Virtus also scored 5 stars in the Latin NCAP tests.

Volkswagen Taigun: Latin NCAP test results

In the Adult Occupant Test, Volkswagen Taigun got a 92% rating, scoring 36.99 points out of a possible 40. The test results noted that the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. The protection on the driver’s chest was marginal while the passenger’s chest was good. In side pole impact, the head, abdomen and pelvis protection was good, while the chest protection was marginal.

In the Child Occupant Protection Test, Volkswagen Taigun was awarded a 92% rating, scoring 45 points out of a possible 49. The child seat for a 3-year-old was installed using ISOFIX anchorages. It offered good protection and was capable of preventing head exposure. Full protection was also offered during the side impact test. The Latin American Taigun offered ISOFIX anchorages as standard.

Moving on, in the Pedestrian and Vulnerable Road Users Protection Test, the Taigun got a 55% rating, scoring 26.47 points out of a possible 36. For head impact, the Taigun was awarded 17.29 points out of 24, while the SUV scored 3.18 and 6 points out of 6 for the upper leg and lower leg impact respectively. In Safety Assist Systems Test, Volkswagen Taigun got an 83% rating, scoring 35.81 points.

Conclusion

The India-spec Volkswagen Taigun that received a 5-star GNCAP rating last year is offered with 2 airbags as standard. Meanwhile, the Latin American Taigun gets 6 airbags as standard. In India, Volkswagen Taigun rivals Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Citroen C3 Aircross, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
