Volkswagen Polo completes 50 years, gets a special edition

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Volkswagen Polo, the automaker has revealed an Edition 50 model for the hatchback. The special edition model is based on the Style trim of the hatchback, which sits above the entry-level trim. It gets cosmetic and feature upgrades. Volkswagen will produce the Edition 50 model in limited numbers.

Volkswagen Polo Edition 50: What’s new?

The Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 gets 16-inch ‘Coventry’ alloy wheels, with the option of 17-inch ‘Torosa’ alloys. The B-pillar has a special 3D badge with the ‘50’ lettering. The rear windows are dark-tinted. The ‘50’ lettering can also be found inside the hatchback, on the lower trim of the steering wheel and the high-gloss black dashboard on the passenger side. The ‘Edition 50’ lettering is showcased on the front sill panel mouldings.

The Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 also gets a black headliner, pedals in chrome look, heated front seats, a multifunction leather steering wheel, a rear view camera system, driving profile selection, ambient lighting, driving profile selection, an ADAS package, and more.

Things remain the same under the hood, as the Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 continues to be powered by the 1-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 95hp and 175Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. This engine is also available in a higher tune of 116hp and 200Nm. However, in this configuration, it is only available with a DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

The special edition Volkswagen Polo is currently only available in Germany. Its prices start at € 28,200 (~ Rs 28.03 lakh). The Edition 50 model will not be launched in India. It remains to be seen whether Volkswagen introduces it in other European and North American markets.
