This is not the first price hike from Toyota India this year. In January, the automaker increased the prices for Innova HyCross by up to Rs 42,000. The April hikes will only reach the 1% mark. It will be applied variably among different models and variants. Some entry-level variants may not receive a price hike at all.
Toyota India has cited ‘escalating input costs and operational expenditures’ as the reason behind the increment. This is in line with Kia and Honda’s statement as well. As the financial year comes to an end, expect other automakers to announce price hikes as well.
Toyota India will also be launching its Fronx-based compact SUV next month. Named Taisor, the SUV will follow the design language of the Glanza (which is based on the Baleno). Its interior layout will be similar to the Fronx. The Fronx comes with a 9.0-inch Smart Pro Play+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Head-Up Display, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera. These features are expected to be present on the Taisor as well.
Powering the Taisor will be the 1.2-litre K Series engine from Maruti. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 90hp and 113Nm of peak torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. It remains to be seen whether Toyota India will bring the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine to the Taisor as well. On the Fronx, this engine produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 147Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
