Toyota Fortuner crosses the 3 lakh sales landmark in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that the Fortuner SUV has crossed the 3 lakh sales landmark in India. This includes the cumulative sales of the Toyota Fortuner and Legender. The premium SUV made its debut in India back in 2009. The Legender was launched in 2021 and built upon the Fortuner to carry forward its legacy.

Toyota Fortuner: One of the most successful premium SUVs in India

One of the primary drivers behind the success of the Toyota Fortuner in India is its relentless 2.8-litre diesel engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 201hp and 500Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations. The SUV can go from 0-100km/h in under 10 seconds.

Toyota Fortuner is also available with a 2.7-litre petrol engine, although it is not popular among buyers. It produces a maximum power output of 164hp and 245Nm of torque. It can only be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol variants of the Fortuner are not available in a 4WD configuration. The automaker pulled the option of a manual gearbox from this powertrain last month.

The dual-tone interior of the Toyota Fortuner contributes massively to its fine cabin experience. The SUV isn’t decked with premium features, but this does not tarnish its appeal among buyers. It rocks an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a TFT Multi-Information Display (MID), ventilated front seats, cruise control, an 11-speaker JBL sound system, wireless charging, and other handy features. On the safety front, the SUV gets 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Brake Assist (BA), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Traction Control System (TRS), seat belt reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX anchorages, and other features.

Speaking on the milestone, Mr Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the passionate Fortuner and Legender fan base in India for their unwavering trust in our brand as we celebrate the remarkable 3-lakh milestone of our most admired SUV. The Fortuner and Legender remains a top choice among SUV enthusiasts who seek a perfect blend of luxury, performance, and reliability. Whether navigating city streets or tackling challenging terrains, it offers premium feel paired with robust strength. Built on the solid foundation of Toyota’s renowned QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability) philosophy – the Fortuner and Legender embodies the core value that define our engineering and manufacturing excellence. These principles are central to Toyota’s global reputation for delivering vehicles that not only last but perform consistently and retain their value over time, thus bringing mass happiness to all.”
