Tata Safari and Harrier facelifts to get Lane Keep Assist via software update

The new Tata Safari and Harrier facelift models were launched this week at a starting price of Rs 16.19 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh respectively. The SUVs also secured a 5-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. Tata Motors has now announced that the two facelifts will soon receive the Lane Keep Assist feature via an OTA update. This feature is a part of the ADAS package on the two SUVs.

Tata Safari and Harrier facelifts: Best-in-class security

Tata Motors first introduced the ADAS package to Safari and Harrier lineups earlier this year. Since the outgoing models had hydraulic power steering, they did not get the Lane Keep Assist feature as a part of the ADAS package. However, the new Tata Safari and Harrier facelifts are equipped with electronic power steering, which allows the SUVs to use the feature.

While the feature was not a part of the ADAS package upon the launch of the two facelift models, the automaker says that buyers will be able to install it with a software update. The feature is still being calibrated for the two SUVs. It will be added to the ADAS package for the units produced later down the line.

Lane Keep Assist maintains the position of the vehicle on the road and automatically adjusts the steering to keep it from drifting outside its lane. It requires an electronic power steering system to function correctly. The ADAS package on Tata Safari and Harrier also features autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

Other features on the two SUVs include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Buyers can also opt for a smaller 10.25-inch unit. There is a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster onboard as well. Other features include a 10-speaker JBL sound system, paddle shifters, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera.

Conclusion

Tata Safari and Harrier facelifts can be booked for a token amount of Rs 25,000. The Safari range goes up to Rs 25.49 lakh while the top-spec variant of the Harrier costs Rs 24.49 lakh. The Tata Safari facelift rivals the likes of MG Hector Plus, Mahindra Scorpio N, and Hyundai Alcazar. Meanwhile, the Harrier facelift rivals the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, and other diesel midsize SUVs.
