Tata Punch EV: What’s on offer?

The design of the new Tata Punch EV is quite different to its ICE counterpart. In fact, it is much closer to the newly released Nexon EV facelift. The electric Punch gets a shut-off grille up front, with a sleek LED light bar running across the bonnet. The housings for the LED headlamps on the bonnet of the SUV resemble the angular design that we previously saw on the Nexon EV and the new Safari & Harrier. The electric Punch will also be the first Tata EV to have the charging socket and the trunk at the front of the vehicle.

Things remain the same along the sides, as the profile of the Punch EV resembles its ICE counterpart. However, it gets a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels. It also gets disc brakes on all four wheels. Meanwhile, only the front wheels of the ICE SUV feature disc brakes. At the back, the electric Punch gets Y-shaped LED tail lamps and a dual-tone bumper.

Inside, the Tata Punch EV gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and another 10.25-inch display for the digital instrument cluster. It also gets the new two-spoke design for the steeling with an illuminated Tata logo at the centre. Other features include cruise control, sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, and more.

Tata Motors has kept a tight lid on the powertrain details of the Punch EV. As of now, we know that the EV will be made available in two battery pack variants – Standard (25 kWh) and Long Range (35 kWh). The Standard variant gets a 3.3kW AC charger while the Long Range variant gets a 7.2kW AC charger. Both variants also support DC fast charging up to 150kW. The ‘acti.ev’ platform underpinning the EV can deliver a driving range between 300-600km, depending on the variant.

Conclusion

Tata Punch EV will get 5 trims – Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+. The last three trims will be made available with the Long Range variant as well. Prices for the electric EV will be revealed on launch day. We expect it to be priced between Rs 10 lakh – 14 lakh. Upon launch, the Punch EV will directly rival the Citroen eC3.
