Tata Curvv and Curvv EV are the latest Indian cars to be crash-tested by the Bharat NCAP. Both cars secured a 5-star safety rating after their respective crash tests. Previously, the Nexon, Nexon EV, Punch, Punch EV, Safari, and Harrier had also secured a 5-star rating from the organisation. Tata Curvv was launched in India last month at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh. Its EV variant was launched in August at Rs 17.49 lakh.

Tata Curvv and Curvv EV: Crash test results explained
Tata Curvv scored 29.50 points out of a possible 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection test. In the Child Occupant Protection test it scored 43.66 points out of a possible 49. Bharat NCAP used the Accomplished+ A variant with a Diesel-MT powertrain for this test. Meanwhile, the Tata Curvv EV scored 30.81 points out of a possible 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection test and 44.83 out of a possible 49 in the Child Occupant Protection test. The Empowered+ A variant with a 55kWh battery pack was used for this test.
The two SUVs sport safety features like frontal airbags, belt pretensioners, belt load limiters, side head curtain airbags, side chest airbags, seat belt reminders and more. However, the variants that were crash-tested by BNCAP lacked knee airbags, side head (thorax) airbags, and side pelvis airbags.
The 45kWh variants of the Tata Curvv EV produce a maximum power output of 150hp and the 55kWh variants put out 167hp. The torque output on all variants is 215Nm. The ICE Curvv is available in 3 powertrain options. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder ‘Revotron’ petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm torque. The new 1.2-litre ‘Hyperion’ engine generates a maximum power output of 125hp and 225Nm torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 118hp.

Conclusion
The 5-star rating makes Tata Curvv one of the safest crossover vehicles in the country. Its direct rival, Citroen Basalt, secured a 4-star rating from BNCAP recently. Apart from the Basalt, Tata Curvv rivals midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, and more.
