Skoda Slavia and Kushaq: Now with ADAS
The midsize SUV segment in India sees a lot of competition among heavyweight automakers like Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Maruti Suzuki, and more. Since 2023, automakers have been integrating ADAS packages into their updated midsize SUVs and sedans, leading to fiercer competition. The Skoda Slavia sedan and Kushaq SUVs are next in line to receive a Level 2 ADAS package. Cars like Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Hyundai Creta are already equipped with ADAS.
The two new facelifts will be underpinned by the same platform as their outgoing counterparts. This MQB-A0-IN platform was developed by Skoda’s teams in India and the Czech Republic. It was first introduced on the Kushaq SUV in 2021. The MQB platform for India focuses on high localisation, low cost of ownership, and quick turnaround times. This platform can accommodate a Level 2 ADAS package.
Skoda Slavia and Kushaq facelifts will also retain their powertrain from the outgoing models. There are 2 powertrain options available for the two cars. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power of 115hp and 175Nm peak torque. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 150hp and 250Nm peak torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
Skoda also has a compact SUV in the works for the Indian market. The automaker is planning a mid-2025 release for the SUV. It will also be underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN platform. This SUV will also get an entry-level ADAS package. The list of features for this package is currently unknown. Being a compact SUV, it will be less than 4 metres in length, which makes it eligible for less excise duties. Expect the SUV to be priced under Rs 10 lakh. Skoda has also announced a naming contest for the new compact SUV.
