Skoda Kylaq scores 5 stars in BNCAP crash tests

Bharat NCAP has awarded Skoda Kylaq a 5-star safety rating. The compact SUV’s safety features were put under the scanner by BNCAP in a series of crash tests. The top-spec Prestige MT variant of the Kylaq was used for these tests. However, the 5-star rating is applicable to all 4 variants of the SUV. The Kylaq was launched in India in December 2024 at a starting price of Rs 7.89 lakh.

Skoda Kylaq: BNCAP test results

In the Adult Occupant Protection Test, Skoda Kylaq scored 30.88 points out of a possible 32. BNCAP awarded 15.04 points out of 16 to the SUV in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test. The driver’s head, neck, right leg, and feet showed good protection while the chest and left leg showed adequate protection. The SUV offered good protection to the passenger’s head, neck, chest, and legs.

In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, the Skoda Kylaq scored 15.84 points out of a possible 16. The SUV offered good protection to the head, upper back and lower back while the protection to the chest remained adequate. BNCAP gave an ‘OK’ rating to the Kylaq in the Side Pole Impact Test, where it offered good protection overall.

In the Child Occupant Protection Test, Skoda Kylaq scored 45 points out of a possible 49. It grabbed full points in the Dynamic test (24) and the CRS installation test (12) but garnered only 9 points out of a possible 13 in the Vehicle assessment test.

Skoda Kylaq is powered by a three-cylinder, 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 178Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The SUV can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 10.5 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 188kmph.

Skoda Kylaq offers ESC (Electronic Stability Control), Side Head Protection System (curtain airbags), Pedestrian Protection System & Seat Belt Reminders (SBR) as a standard fitment across all the variants.

Conclusion

Prices for Skoda Kylaq start at Rs 7.89 lakh for the entry-level Classic variant and go up to Rs 14.40 lakh for the Prestige AT variant. Skoda will start delivering the SUV to customers from January 27. The Kyalq rivals Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Kia Sonet in India.
