Kia Carens: Instrument cluster issue to be patched with a software update

Some Kia Carens models were reported to have an issue where the instrument cluster was failing to boot correctly. This resulted in the screen getting completely blacked out. Kia has determined that the model units manufactured between September 2022 and February 2023 could potentially have this issue. Therefore, a recall of 30,297 units has been announced by the automaker.

Kia will conduct a check of the instrument cluster on these 30,397 units of Kia Carens. Any faulty clusters will be patched with a free software update. Over the next few days, Kia will be contacting the owners of the suspected units and call them in for a free check.

Earlier, this year, Kia added a new Luxury (O) trim to the Carens lineup. The Luxury (O) variant sits between the Luxury and Luxury Plus trims. It is priced at Rs 17 lakh. Kia Carens comes in three powertrain options – 1.5-litre diesel, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, and the newest 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel and naturally aspirated petrol engines on the Carens have also been updated to meet the RDE norms that are set to be enforced in April.

Kia has also introduced the iMT gearbox technology on the Carens. The top-end variants of the SUV will receive an iMT gearbox while the other variants will continue with the DCT gearbox. The new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and the diesel engine will not be offered in a manual transmission configuration.
