Nissan India crosses 5 lakh sales milestone

Nissan India has crossed the 5 lakh sales milestone in the country. The automaker started operating in India back in 2019. With a limited catalogue in India, it took the automaker 19 years to reach this landmark. Nissan’s current portfolio in India consists of the Magnite SUV, which is manufactured in India, and the X-Trail, which is imported to the country via the CBU route. The automaker plans on bringing the Patrol SUV to India next year.

Nissan India: The journey so far

It is no surprise that the Magnite SUV is the primary driver of Nissan sales in India. The SUV has been the automaker’s bestselling car in India since its launch in 2020. For the majority of the 4-year period, it was the only Nissan offering in India. Back in September, Nissan India announced that it had sold over 1.50 lakh units of the Magnite (including exports). In November alone, the SUV sold 2,342 units domestically. Almost 7,000 units of the SUV were exported to foreign markets.

Nissan Magnite

The facelifted version of the Nissan Magnite was launched in October at a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh. The compact SUV is available in two engine options. The 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 72hp and 96Nm of torque. This engine can be linked to a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 160Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox.

Nissan X-Trail

Meanwhile, the Nissan X-Trail, which is a CBU import, was launched in August at a price of Rs 49.92 lakh. It is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine is linked to a 12V mild-hybrid setup. The SUV produces a combined engine output of 163hp and 300Nm. This engine system is paired with a CVT gearbox.

Nissan Patrol

Nissan India plans on bringing the Patrol SUV to India by the end of 2025. Like the X-Trail, the Patrol will be a CBU import. It was unveiled earlier this year in Abu Dhabi. The Patrol is available in two V6 engine options. The new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 425hp and 700Nm of torque. In comparison to the outgoing V8 engine, this is a 7% increase in power and a 25% boost in torque. Meanwhile, the 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine puts out 316hp and 386Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 9-speed automatic transmission. There are six drive modes on offer – Standard, Sand, Rock, Mud/Rut, Eco, and Sport.

Conclusion

While Nissan India’s popularity majorly rests upon the Magnite SUV, the automaker will be introducing more cars in the budget and midrange segment next year. The Magnite is the most affordable SUV offering in India right now. It rivals other compact SUVs like Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Punch, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
