The fourth-generation Hyundai i20 is finally here. The hatchback made its debut in Brazil yesterday. The X Line edition of the i20 was revealed alongside the regular lineup. Hyundai’s global K3 platform underpins the next-gen hatchback. This is the same platform that does duty on the India-spec Kia Seltos. It remains to be seen when the new i20 will be introduced in India. As of now, Hyundai has not announced production of the hatchback outside of Brazil.

4th-gen Hyundai i20: What’s new?
The new Hyundai i20 is 4,130mm long, 1,780mm wide, and 1,495mm tall, with a 2,580mm wheelbase. It clears the ground at 160mm. Up front, it gets a sleek and modest grille, which is flanked on either side by sharp LED headlamps. These headlamps are integrated with Y-shaped LED DRLs. A light bar running across the bonnet connects the lighting elements together. The i20 can be opted in 3 alloy wheel sizes – 15, 16, and 17 inches. At the back, the LED headlamps are connected by a sleek light bar.
Inside, the new i20 gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. The top-spec model gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 6-speaker sound system. Other features include leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, connected car tech, and OTA updates.
On the safety front, the new Hyundai i20 gets 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), parking sensors, and more features. Higher variants come with Hyundai’s ‘SmartSense’ ADAS package, which includes features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Following Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and more.
When it comes to engine options, the Brazil-spec Hyundai i20 comes in 1-litre NA and turbo-petrol engine options. Both engines are compliant with E30 fuel. The former generates 80hp and 100Nm on Ethanol-blended fuel, and 75hp and 94Nm on gasoline. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol engine puts out 115hp and 172Nm with gasoline and ethanol-blended fuel. The naturally aspirated engine can only be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol engine can be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Final Thoughts
In Brazil, the new i20 is available in 5 trims – Comfort, Limited, X Line, Platinum, and Ultimate. Its prices start at R$ 99,990 (Rs 18.78 lakh) and go up to R$ 139,990 (Rs 26.29 lakh). It remains to be seen when Hyundai will start manufacturing the hatchback in India. Upon launch, it will continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza in India.
