Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG launch soon: Here are all the details

Maruti is set to launch the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG next month. The launch will take place after Toyota rolls out the Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG. Toyota will be looking to launch the HyRyder CNG by the end of November, following which the Grand Vitara CNG will get a release. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will become the only Maruti vehicle to be offered in petrol, strong hybrid, and CNG configurations. The CNG variant is bound to attract buyers who would have gone for the diesel powertrain.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG: Everything you need to know

Off late, Maruti has been on a CNG launch spree, making up for the lack of diesel cars in their lineup. The Indian automaker has so far launched the CNG variants of Baleno, XL6, Swift Dzire, and S-Presso in the last few months with the Brezza CNG on the way. Earlier, it was expected that the Brezza CNG would launch before the Grand Vitara CNG, but the latter seems to have been fast-tracked for the launch.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG will sport the 1.5-litre K15C four-cylinder engine. The HyRyder CNG will also be equipped with this unit. In a CNG configuration, this engine can produce a maximum power output of 88hp and 121.5Nm peak torque. These numbers have been derived from the XL6 CNG which makes use of the same engine. The Grand Vitara CNG will come with a 5-speed manual transmission, and as is the case with most CNG cars, it will miss out on an automatic gearbox. The fuel efficiency is expected to be 26.10 km/kg.

No major cosmetic changes are expected on the Grand Vitara CNG. The midsize SUV will get a CNG badge at the rear and a CNG cylinder in the boot lid. As a result, the boot space of the car will be significantly reduced. The equipment list and instrumental along with the interior theme are expected to remain the same.

Conclusion

Unlike the HyRyder CNG, Maruti could offer a CNG configuration on the entry-level variants of the Grand Vitara. Both SUVs will also directly compete against each other in the market. While Maruti has not announced the pricing yet, the Grand Vitara CNG is expected to cost lower than its Toyota counterpart. However, the CNG configuration could come at a premium of up to Rs 90,000 compared to the petrol mild-hybrid variants. Currently, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara rivals, the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and MG Astor.
