Maruti Suzuki Ertiga becomes automaker’s bestselling car in 2024

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has outsold the Wagon R to become the automaker’s bestselling vehicle in 2024. The Wagon R was Maruti Suzuki’s bestselling car in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The Ertiga outsold it in 2024 by 483 units. The automaker also registered a 1% year-on-year growth in 2024, selling a total of 16,25,308 vehicles in 2024 (Jan-Nov) compared to 16,02,890 units in 2023 (Jan-Nov).

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga dethrones the Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,74,035 units of the Ertiga between January to November 2024. In the same time period, the Wagon R sold 1,73,552 units. Ranking third in Maruti’s list of bestsellers is the Brezza SUV with 1,70,823 units sold. The Dzire is the automaker’s most successful sedan in India, with 1,51,415 units sold in 2024. Maruti’s flagship offering in India, the Grand Vitara, sold a total of 1,15,654 units this year. The Invicto was the weakest performer, selling just 3,191 units.

One of the reasons behind the success of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the choice of two powertrains. The 1.5-litre petrol engine on the MPV generates a maximum power output of 103hp and 137Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In a CNG configuration, this engine produces a maximum power output of 92hp and 122Nm of torque. The Eritga CNG is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Petrol variants of the MPV have a mileage of 20.51 km/l while the CNG variant bumps up the fuel efficiency to 26.11 km/kg.

Inside, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is equipped with features like power steering, power windows, remote locking, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminders, ABS with EBD, steering mounted controls, an audio system, a four-speaker sound system, power outlets for the first and second row, a dual-tone dashboard, and more. It also has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system inside. This SmartPlay infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The CNG variants of the MPV make up 50% of Maruti Suzuki’s CNG sales. In India, the Ertiga rivals Renault Triber, Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki XL6, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta.
