Maruti Suzuki Fronx: 1,600 shipped to Japan
The Fronx SUV is only the second Maruti Suzuki model after Japan to be shipped to Japan. The first made-in-India vehicle from the automaker to hit the Japanese shores was the Baleno in 20016. The Fronx is expected to launch in Japan in the autumn of 2024.
Speaking on the milestone, Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “I am proud to share that our ‘Made-in-India’ Fronx will soon be seen on the roads in Japan. Japan is one of the most quality conscious and advanced automobile markets in the world. Our export to Japan is a testament of Maruti Suzuki’s capability to manufacture world-class vehicles that exemplify cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, internationally recognized safety, and quality standards. It underscores our strong commitment to excellence. The Fronx embodies the best of engineering, design finesse and is a beacon of Indian auto manufacturing excellence. I am confident that it will be received well by Japanese customers.”
The compact SUV is available in two powertrain options. Baleno’s discontinued Boosterjet engine makes a return on the Fronx. This 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine can produce a maximum power output of 100hp and 147Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Also on offer is the 1.2-litre K Series naturally aspirated petrol engine that can produce a maximum power output of 90hp and 113Nm peak torque. This engine can also be mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
