Kia Syros EV: What to expect?
The Kia Syros EV will be underpinned by the same K1 platform as its ICE counterpart. Of course, this platform will tweaked to accommodate an all-electric powertrain for the compact SUV. The spy shots that have surfaced so far confirm EV-exclusive cosmetic tweaks like a shut-off grille and a charging port cutout. The al-electric model will rest on aero-optimised alloy wheels and will rock ‘EV’ badging.

No design changes are expected inside the EV. Similar to the ICE model, the all-electric Syros will get twin 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, and a 5-inch climate control system. Other features like an 8-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, a 4-way powered front seat, seat ventilation, reclining and sliding second-row seats, 64-colour ambient mood lighting, and wireless charging are expected to make the cut. It will also rock EV-exclusive charging functionalities like Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V).

We don’t know a lot about the Syros EV’s mechanical specs so far. It is rumoured that Kia will source its battery pack from the Hyundai Inster EV. If the rumours are correct, the EV will be offered in 42kWh and 49kWh battery sizes. These battery packs will offer a driving range of 300km and 370km, respectively.

The Syros EV may also share its powertrain with the Inster EV. If that is the case, it will be powered by a front-mounted single electric motor. On the Inster EV, this motor generates a maximum power output of 96hp and 147Nm of torque on the smaller battery variants. The higher variants with the larger battery pack put out 113hp and 147Nm.
The ICE version of the Kia Syros comes in 2 engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 172Nm of torque. It can be linked to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 250Nm of torque. This engine also gets 2 transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

Final Thoughts
Prices for the ICE Syros start at Rs 8.40 lakh and go up to Rs 15.80 lakh. Its all-electric range will be priced above Rs 10 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV in India.
