Kia Sonet reaches the 4 lakh sales landmark

Kia Sonet has breezed past the 4 lakh sales landmark, as revealed by the automaker. It took the SUV less than four years to achieve this feat. 3.17 lakh units of the compact SUV were sold domestically while the rest were exported to global markets. This makes the Sonet one of the bestselling SUVs in India. The facelifted version of the Sonet was launched in India back in January.

Kia Sonet: 4 lakh sales in less than 4 years

Out of the 4 lakh sales, 3,17,754 units of Kia Sonet were sold in India. 85,814 units were shipped overseas to African, ASEAN, and Middle Eastern markets. According to Kia, the Sonet SUV accounts for 33.3% of the automaker’s sales in India. The petrol versions of the SUV accounted for 63% of the sales while the diesel powertrain made up 37% of the sales. Automatic variants of Kia Sonet were more popular among buyers with 28% of the sales. 23% of the buyers preferred the iMT variants.

The Kia Sonet facelift launched in January 2023 is available in three engine options – 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 83hp and 115Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine on the  Sonet churns out 120hp and 172Nm. It can be paired with an iMT or DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5-litre diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 116hp and 250Nm of torque. This diesel engine gets the option of a manual gearbox on top of an iMT or automatic gearbox.

In terms of features, the Kia Sonet facelift rocks a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a Bose audio system, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and more. The biggest feature of the facelift is a Level 1 ADAS package. This package consists of features like lane keep assist, high beam assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and more.

Prices for the Kia Sonet in India start at Rs 7.99 lakh and go up to Rs 15.75 lakh. It is available in 7 trims – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+, and X-Line. The SUV rivals the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, and Renault Kiger.
