BMW i5 launched in India at Rs 1.20 crore

BMW has launched the all-electric i5 sedan in India at the price of Rs 1.20 crore. The BMW i5 is being imported to India as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit. Bookings for the i5 were opened earlier this month. It is available in a single top-spec (M60 xDrive) trim. The i5 fills the gap between the i4 and the i7 in BMW’s India portfolio.

BMW i5: What’s on offer?

The new BMW i5 M60 xDrive features the signature illuminated BMW kidney grille up front. The adaptive LED headlights are integrated with vertically oriented LED DRLs. As a result, the headlights exude the iconic ‘four-eye’ look. Along the sides, the sedan rests on 20-inch M light alloy wheels. At the back, the i5 gets sleek LED headlamps with chrome separators.

Inside, the BMW i5 gets a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. OS duties on the touchscreen infotainment system are handled by iDrive 8.5 OS. This OS supports gaming and video functions as well. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather while the upholstery can be had in a Venganza or Alcantara finish. Other features on the electric sedan include a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, a B&W audio system, a 4-zone climate control, and more.

Powering the BMW i5 is a dual electric motor which can produce a maximum power output of 601hp and 795Nm of torque. The sedan can go from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. Its top speed has been capped at 230 kmph. The 83.9kWh battery pack on the i5 offers a driving range of 516km. Using a 205kW DC charger, this battery pack can be charged from 10-80% in under 30 minutes.

Conclusion

The BMW i5 is available in 8 paint shades – Mineral White, Black Sapphire, M Carbon Black, M Brooklyn Grey, Phytonic Blue, Cape York Green, Sophiosto Grey, and Oxide Grey. The automaker is also offering a 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for the sedan as standard. The battery pack has an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty. In India, the BMW i5 rivals the Audi Q8 e-Tron and Porsche Taycan.
