Kia EV9 SUV to launch in India next year

The all-electric Kia EV9 SUV will be launched in India next year. Kia’s flagship electric SUV was showcased as a concept model at Auto Expo earlier this year. The production model broke cover in March 2023. Currently, the EV6 is Kia’s flagship electric SUV in India. The EV9 will be brought to the country as a part of the automaker’s ‘Kia 2.0’ strategy.

Kia EV9: What’s on offer?

The production-spec model of the Kia EV9 is consistent with the concept model showcased at Auto Expo. The SUV gets simple lines and body surfaces up front, along with the ‘Digital Pattern Lightning Grille’. This grille is flanked on either side by vertical LED headlamps. The ‘Star Maps’ LED DRLs also make an appearance on the EV9.

The profile of the SUV is marked by its butch stance and tapering roofline. The SUV gets 21-inch wheels. In comparison, the concept model sported 23-inch wheels. The clear design from the front fascia is carried onto the rear end as well. The tail lamps get the ‘Star Maps’ design of the front DRLs.

The biggest highlight inside the Kia EV9 is the triple display unit. Two 12.5-inch touchscreens are integrated with a 5-inch digital display. The dashboard sports an open floating panoramic design and spans the area from the steering wheel to the centre of the vehicle. The electric SUV gets three seating rows and two seating options. The middle row can be swivelled by 180 degrees to face the third row.

The international model of the Kia EV9 gets three powertrain options. The entry-level RWD model gets a 76.1kWh battery pack. This is followed by the 99.9kWh battery pack variant. The top-spec model gets AWD and two electric motors.

Conclusion

Like the EV6, Kia EV9 will be imported to India as a CBU. Its price could exceed the Rs 1 crore mark, making it the most expensive Kia pricing in India. Currently, EV6 is Kia’s only electric offering in India, priced at Rs 59.95 lakh. The EV6 rivals Volkswagen XC40 Recharge and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India.
