Kia India has opened the booking window for its new 7-seater EV. Buyers can book their Kia Carens Clavis EV model for a token amount of Rs 25,000. The bookings can be made on Kia’s official website or at its dealerships across India. The Carens Clavis EV was launched last week at a starting price of Rs 17.99 lakh. It is the most affordable 7-seater electric SUV in India right now.

The Kia Carens Clavis EV shares its design with its ICE sibling. It gets some EV-specific changes like active aero flaps, a charging port cutout on the nose, and exclusive badging. A thin LED bar spanning the width of the bonnet connects the LED DRLs. The design of the fog lamps is slightly tweaked on the EV. The lower bumper gets a silver trim as well. The frunk has a 25-litre storage capacity.

Inside, the 7-seater electric SUV flaunts dual 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. There’s support onboard for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV is also equipped with features like an 8-speaker Bose sound system, touch-sensitive HVAC and media controls, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, connected car tech, wireless charging, and more. Its Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Load tech allows it to charge other EVs and electronic devices.

Kia Carens Clavis EV: What’s on offer?

On the safety front, the Kia Carens Clavis EV gets 6 airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill-Start Assist, and more. There’s a Level 2 ADAS package and a 360-degree camera onboard as well. The EV is yet to be crash-tested by Bharat  NCAP.

Powering the Kia Carens Clavis EV is a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. This is the same engine that powers the Hyundai Creta Electric. The two electric SUVs also share their battery packs. The Carens Clavis EV comes with 2 battery pack options: 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The 42kWh variants produce a maximum power output of 135hp while the latter put out 171hp. All variants produce the same torque output – 255Nm.

Final Thoughts

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is available in 6 colour options: Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, and Ivory Silver Matte. Kia has not specified the delivery rollout schedule for the EV. The 7-seater electric SUV has no true rivals, but it locks horns with the BYD eMax 7Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6.
