Jeep Compass to get diesel 2WD automatic variants soon

Jeep Compass and Meridian have seen a couple of price hikes this year. The automaker has also been working on making the SUVs more accessible to buyers by introducing new EMI plans and slashing the price of the entry-level variants for the Compass. Now, Jeep is planning on adding diesel 2WD automatic variants to the Compass lineup.

Jeep Compass: The powertrain situation

Currently, the Jeep Compass is available in only one engine option. The 2.0-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 170hp and 350Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. The automatic gearbox is only available for variants with 4WD configuration. Prices for the automatic variants of the Compass currently start at Rs 29.84 lakh.

With the addition of 2WD automatic variants, buyers will be able to get the automatic transmission for Jeep Compass at a more affordable price. Jeep Compass will be made available in five trims – Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The new Longitude trim will get automatic variants with a 2WD configuration. It could cost Rs 2 lakh cheaper than the Limited AT trim. The Sport trim will remain the entry-level trim, with prices starting at Rs 21.73 lakh.

Earlier this year, Jeep discontinued the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine for the Compass due to the updated emission norms. However, a new 1.3-litre petrol engine is set to be made available for Jeep Compass next year. The Meridian is also available in a diesel powertrain only. The 2.0-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 170hp and 350Nm of torque.
