Hyundai Creta EV is set to launch in India on January 17. Ahead of the launch, the electric SUV underwent homologation testing by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The SUV was spotted in Pune while these tests were taking place. Hyundai will unveil the Creta EV at the Bharat Mobility Show this month. It will be showcased alongside its badge sibling – the Ioniq 9 EV.

Hyundai Creta EV: What to expect?

The test module of the Hyundai Creta EV spotted in Pune was draped in heavy camouflage. We expect the EV to mimic the design of its ICE sibling. However, it will get EV-exclusive changes like a shut-off grille, charger cutout, electric branding, and more. The fragmented L-shaped LED DRLs will remain unchanged from the ICE model of the SUV. Hyundai may introduce a new design for the alloy wheels.

Inside, the Hyundai Creta EV will sport a few notable changes over its ICE sibling. The electric SUV will feature a three-spoke circular steering instead of a flat-bottom unit. There will be a drive selector onboard as well. The cabin area will get two cup holders and physical buttons for the 36-degree camera, electronic parking brake, auto-hold, and seat cooling. The dashboard will house the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The electric SUV will also take some design cues from the Alcazar.

The Hyundai Creta EV will be equipped with a 45kWh battery pack. This battery pack is expected to deliver a driving range of 450km on a full charge. It is expected that the electric SUV will borrow its powertrain from the Hyundai Kona EV. The front-mounted electric motor produces a maximum power output of 138hp and 255Nm of torque. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai will introduce multiple battery pack variants for the Creta EV.

Conclusion

Hyundai Creta EV is currently in the production phase. The automaker plans to pump out 24,000 units of the electric SUV annually. Prices for the ICE version of the SUV start at Rs 11 lakh and go up to Rs 20.30 lakh. We expect prices for the Creta EV to start at Rs 18 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, Tata Nexon EV, and MG Windsor EV.
