BYD Seal EV: What to expect?

Taking inspiration from Ocean X’s design, BYD Seal was revealed in 2021. Like BYD Dolphin, the Seal EV also follows the ‘Ocean’ themed nomenclature. The electric sedan stands at dimensions of 4,800mm x 1,875mm x 1,460mm and has a wheelbase of 2,920mm. It is visibly longer and taller than its global rival, Model 3.

Up front, BYD Seal has split LED headlamps which are integrated with 4 Boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. A rear light bar, spanning the width of the sedan, connects the tail lamps. In profile, the Seal has a coupe-like sloping roofline. The boot space capacity of the electric sedan is 400 litres while the frunk can hold an additional 53 litres of cargo.

Similar to the Atto 3 and e6 EVs, BYD Seal gets a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display inside. Also present is a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The AC vents are positioned around the infotainment unit. The drive modes can be adjusted using the scroll wheel on the centre console. It also houses two wireless charging pads and additional controls.

There are two battery pack options on offer for the BYD Seal – 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh. The smaller battery pack has a driving range of 550km. It also supports 110kW charging. The 82.5kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 700km and can be charged at a speed of up to 150kW. The two axle-mounted electric motors on the sedan can produce a maximum power output of 530hp and 670Nm of torque. It can go from 0-100kmph in 3.8 seconds (AWD mode) while achieving a top speed of 180kmph.

However, certain BYD dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings for the Seal EV. Upon launch, the electric sedan will rival the likes of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
