The German Automobile company BMW is all set to take on its rival Mercedes-Benz and Audi in the electric vehicle arena with the launch of the BMW i7 electric sedan. The upcoming luxury card is expected to debut next year in 2022. The i7 will be launched under its 7 series lineup and will be borrowing its specification from iX SUV. It will be built on the CLAR platform which is also used by the i4 Gran Coupe.

The company has now yet revealed the key details but speculations suggest that it will be somewhat similar to the BMW iX SUV as we said before. The output is expected to be between 500 and 525 bhp. It will also be made available in a variety of configurations. On a single charge, it is said to run for about 500 kilometres housing a 105kWh battery which is found in the iX xDrive 50 offering a charging time of about 11 hours.

As far as the interiors are concerned this is likely to be comparable to that of a luxury sedan. One should note that BMW i7 electric sedan will be the company’s first electric sedan in the segment going against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS luxury electric sedan. It will also get a divisive split headlight design. According to the teaser, the front lights are temporarily set for the low or high beams whereas the top strip of daytime running lights remains hidden beneath the masquerade.

The world premiere of the BMW i7 is said to take place next year. However, the launch of its flagship electric iX SUV will take place on December 11 followed by the launch of MINI, another electric hatchback. It is expected to go on sale by the end of this year.
