Auto Expo 2022 will not happen in Feb next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic

Auto Expo happens in India every two years. The last time it happened here was last year in Feb of 2020. When the pandemic had not hit our shores but was dominant in other parts of the world. Right after the Auto Expo 2020, the Pandemic reached our country. Due to this, the Auto Expo 2022 might stand cancelled or will be moved to another date.

Auto Expo is an exhibition, which as said, happens once in two years at the beginning of each year. Feb 9, 2022, was the date decided for the Indian auto show. Now because of the current situation and because of the Covid-19 pandemic, a statement has been released by SIAM, the main organisers behind the Auto Expo. Here many major Indian and foreign car, bike and truck makers showcase their upcoming vehicles, which is spread over a week.

The industry body’s Director General of SIAM Rajesh Menon said, “Safety of exhibitors, visitors and all stakeholders involved and present at the Expo is the topmost priority for SIAM. It is in this context that the Indian automobile industry and SIAM recognise the inherent risks in organising the Auto Expo due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the apprehensions of a possible third wave.”

He further added “It has therefore been decided to postpone the Auto Expo – The Motor Show for now. The exact date for the next edition of the Auto Expo – The Motor Show will be finalised later this year keeping in view the Covid situation and in alignment with the OICA calendar of global auto shows.”

By the looks of it, the show will not happen in FEB 2022 as the automakers are in a tizzy about the current situation. Moreover, there is the case of managing huge crowds in closed, confined spaces, that can lead to further problems.

Chances are that the Auto Expo 2022, might be scrapped altogether and it will skip a year and will directly happen in 2024, as some experts are suggesting. Or later in 2022 if the situation improves.
