Maruti Suzuki Fronx is about to get a facelift next year. The compact SUV made its debut in India in April 2023. Since then, it has been one of the most successful cars in its segment. However, the recent rise in competition, along with evolving trends, has forced the SUV to bring in much-needed updates. The first spy shots of the facelift have emerged from Gurugram. Although the test mule was fully camouflaged, we noticed some exciting changes that may catch your fancy.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx facelift: Here’s what the spy shots suggest

The cutouts on the camouflage of the Fronx facelift’s test mule suggest some exciting changes along the front fascia. The front grille design appears to have been reworked on the new model. No changes are expected to the LED headlamp and DRL setup. The front bumper will continue to house the split LED headlamps, while the sleek LED DRLs will be positioned on either side of the grille.

The central area of the SUV was fully covered. Since its hatchback counterpart, the Baleno, got an ADAS suite on its facelift model which was launched last month, we expect a similar update here. The ADAS radar will most likely be positioned in the central section of the front fascia. The Baleno facelift’s Level 2 suite comprises functions like Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Assist (HBA), Vehicle Sway Warning and Forward Collision Warning. This suite will most likely be offered on the Fronx facelift as well.

The test mule doesn’t give away any significant details about its profile and rear section. We expect the tailgate and rear bumper to get some tweaks. The rear wheels of the test unit had disc brakes, which is a good upgrade over the rear drum brakes on the current model.

The spy shots do not reveal any details about the facelift model’s interior layout. We wouldn’t be surprised if it shares its cabin and dashboard setup with the Baleno facelift. If that is the case, the SUV will retain its 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and MID instrument panel. Features like wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless charging (with a cooling pad), a Head-up Display, and a 360-degree camera are expected to make the cut.

The 1.2-litre K Series naturally aspirated petrol engine on the current version of the Fronx will give way to the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated ‘Z12E’ petrol engine. On the Baleno, this unit puts out 83hp and 112Nm of torque, and can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT. In a CNG guise, the hatchback churns out 70hp and 102Nm. The CNG model is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Fronx facelift will retain the current model’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This unit produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 147Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current Fronx lineup start at Rs 6.90 lakh and go up to Rs 12.03 lakh. The facelift model will demand a small premium over these prices. It is expected to go on sale in early 2027. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger in India.
