Tata Motors has offered the first glimpse of its upcoming Sierra EV. In a new marketing film for the Tata Sierra range, the automaker revealed the ICE and all-electric models of the SUV. The front fascia of the two models is styled differently, but they share identical profiles and overall design. The ICE version of the Sierra will go on sale in India on November 25. It remains to be seen whether Tata will launch the all-electric version on the same day.

Tata Sierra EV: What to expect?
The Sierra EV retains the core design elements of its concept model, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. Its front fascia features a shut-off grille – a departure from the ICE model – and a sleek LED light bar. The front end looks clean and minimal. The profile of the SUV reveals its upright stance, which is clearly inspired by its namesake model from the 1990s. The profile of the EV and ICE models is identical. The big highlight here is the wraparound rear glass. The teaser for the EV gives a glimpse of the alloy wheel design. At the back, the Sierra EV gets sleek tail lamps connected by an LED light strip.

Both models will share the same interior layout. The electric SUV will feature a 3-screen setup for the digital instrument cluster and the central and passenger-side touchscreens. Each screen measures 12.3 inches. The full list of features has not been confirmed yet, but the SUV will come with ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless charging. On the safety front, it will get 6 airbags as standard, along with premium features like a 360-degree camera and a Level 2 ADAS package.

Tata has kept the powertrain details of the Sierra EV under a tight lid. It might borrow its powertrain and battery pack options from the Harrier EV. The latter comes in 2 battery pack sizes – 65kWh and 75kWh. The 75kWh battery pack offers 622km MIDC-certified range. Tata’s in-house C75 drive cycle test places its range between 480-505km. Meanwhile, the 65kWh has an ARAI-certified range of 538km and C75-tested range between 420-445km. The RWD variants of the EV are powered by a single, rear-axle-mounted electric motor. This motor generates a maximum power output of 238hp and 315Nm of torque. The AWD variants put out 390hp and 594Nm.

Meanwhile, the ICE model could be powered by Tata’s brand new 1.5-litre direct injection turbo-petrol engine. This engine also made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023. The entry-level variants of the SUV could be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The 1.5-litre ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine from Tata Curvv could also be made available for the Sierra. This engine generates a maximum power output of 118hp on the crossover and can be linked to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts
The launch date of the Tata Sierra ICE has been set for November 25. We expect the all-electric model to launch in early 2026. We expect its prices to start at Rs 20 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the BYD Atto 3, Mahindra BE6, MG ZS EV, Tata Harrier EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and Hyundai Creta Electric.
