Volkswagen Virtus facelift spotted testing for the first time

Volkswagen is in the middle of refreshing its midsize SUV and sedan offerings. The Taigun facelift is set to go on sale on April 9. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Virtus facelift is still in the testing phase. The first spy shots of the sedan surfaced online recently. The front and rear sections of the test mule were covered in camouflage, just like Taigun’s test units.

Volkswagen Virtus facelift: What to expect?

Most of the big changes on the Volkswagen Virtus facelift will lie along the front and rear sections. The air dam on the front bumper has a mesh grill design rather than horizontal slats. A sleek grille runs across the LED headlamps, likely carrying a light bar and an illuminated VW logo. The design of the headlamps could be inspired by the Volkswagen Taigun. If that is the case, they will be integrated with LED DRLs.

No changes are expected along the sides, apart from a new design for the alloy wheels. The profile of the facelift model will be identical to its outgoing counterpart. At the back, the Virtus will get a new look for its bumper, tailgate, and LED taillamps. The tail lamps will be connected by an LED light bar.

Current-gen Volkswagen Virtus

Inside, the Volkswagen Virtus will feature premium trims on the dashboard and door panels. The automaker may introduce a new colour theme for the interior. The dashboard will house a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. A 10.25-inch digital driver’s display will join the infotainment system on the dashboard. The midsize sedan will also rock features like multi-zone air conditioning, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, and more.

Things will remain the same under the hood for the Volkswagen Virtus facelift. It will continue to be offered in 2 engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 113hp and 175Nm of torque. The engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine puts out 148hp and 250Nm. This engine can be linked to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current Volkswagen Virtus range start at Rs 10.50 lakh and go up to Rs 18.80 lakh. The facelift model will demand a small premium. Upon launch, it will rival the Honda CityHyundai Verna, and Skoda Slavia in India.
