Volkswagen Tayron R-Line: Volkswagen’s new flagship SUV in India

The Tayron R-Line sits above the Tiguan R-Line, making it the most premium Volkswagen offering in India. It stands at dimensions of 4,735mm x 1,859mm x 1,682mm and has a 2,789mm wheelbase. The R-Line variant gets exclusive badging. It flaunts an intimidating front fascia, strong character lines along the sides, and sleek IQ.LIGHT LED Matrix headlamps and wraparound tail lamps.

Inside, the premium SUV flaunts premium Varenna leather upholstery on the front seats. These seats are equipped with ergoActive Plus technology, 10-point pressure massage, and active ventilation. There is a new 15-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Tayron has three rows and seats 7 people. The third seating row can be collapsed to expand the boot space capacity to 850 litres. The panoramic sunroof is large enough to cover all three rows.

Volkswagen has kept a lid on the powertrain details of the India-spec Tayron R-Line. In international markets, the R-Line variant is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces a maximum power output of 217hp and 350Nm of torque, and is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The regular variants put out 184hp and 320Nm.

Mr Piyush Arora, MD & CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, said, “The start of production for another world-class model – the Tayron R-Line at our Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility represents a strategic step forward for Volkswagen India’s SUV portfolio. This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to putting the customer at the heart of our engineering, ensuring every detail resonates with the lifestyle and aspirations of our patrons. We aim to deliver a distinctive choice for premium SUV customers while reinforcing our operational strength and readiness to meet the evolving expectations of the Indian automotive market.”
