The MG Astor SUV has been discontinued in India due to dwindling sales. The Astor made its debut in India back in 2021. Since then, the compact and midsize SUV market has grown tremendously, with new offerings from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Hyundai dominating the segment. In the last 12 months, the Astor averaged 112 sales per month, forcing MG Motor to pull the plug. The automaker will replace it with a more competitive offering soon.

MG Astor: The end of the line
During its lifecycle, the MG Astor was available in NA petrol and turbo-petrol engine options. The latter was discontinued back in February 2025. This 1.3-litre unit generated a maximum power output of 140hp and 220Nm of torque. It was available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Only the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine remained after the turbo-petrol unit was discontinued. It generated 110hp and 144Nm, with 5-speed manual and 8-speed CVT options on offer. While its rivals offered CNG powertrains, the Astor was limited to these 2 engine options only.
MG Astor also has an all-electric version, which is sold as the ZS EV in India. It remains to be seen whether it will be pulled from India too. The electric SUV is powered by a front-mounted electric motor that produces a maximum power output of 176hp and 280Nm. The 50.3kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 461km. The EV can go from 0-100kmph in 8.5 seconds.
While the Astor wasn’t packed with segment-defining features, it had a respectable spec sheet. The SUV packed a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The driver’s cockpit was equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features included ventilated front seats, a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, a digital key, rear AC vents, auto-dimming IVRM, an air purifier, and wireless charging.
On the safety front, the compact SUV packed 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill hold assist, descent control, and traction control. On top of that, the SUV rocks a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rain-sensing wipers, disc brakes on all four wheels, Electronic Parking Brake with autohold, and ISOFIX anchorages. There was also an ADAS package present on board.

Final Thoughts
Since the midsize/compact SUV segment is hugely popular in India, MG Motor has a replacement for the Astor in the works. The new SUV will be based on the automaker’s SIGMA platform. As things stand, the Hector is the only MG SUV competing in the sub-Rs 15 lakh price bracket.
