Kia Carens Clavis EV-based Hyundai Neira Concept Breaks Cover at GIIAS 2026

Hyundai Neira, the Kia Carens Clavis EV-based electric MPV, has broken cover at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. The automaker has not confirmed whether the Neira is intended for the Indian market, but its production model is expected to go on sale in the country as soon as it is released. The Carens Clavis EV was launched in India in July 2025.

Hyundai Neira EV: What to expect?

The Hyundai Neira prototype follows the broad design language of the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It distinguishes itself by ditching the clean and minimal front fascia for a more traditional-looking setup. Instead of a shut-off grille, it gives room to two horizontal slats running between the LED headlamps. The LED light bar connecting the DRLs is positioned above these slats, while a silver trim is placed at the bottom. The front bumper has a more muscular look. The charging port cutout is much more compact.

Along the sides, the Neira EV gets a new design for its alloy wheels. The door handles have a chrome finish, as opposed to the Carens Clavis EV, which has body-coloured units. The rocker panel has a triple ridge design. At the back, the LED tail lamps are connected by a light bar. The bumper design is different from the one offered by Kia, and it is integrated with plenty of silver cladding.

Inside, the Hyundai Neira retains the layout of its Kia cousin. It distinguishes itself with black upholstery and Hyundai’s Morse logo on the two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel. The dashboard rocks dual 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. There are physical switches for AC controls. The centre console has a floating design. The Neira was showcased in a 7-seat layout. The Carens Clavis EV is available in 6- and 7-seat configurations.

Hyundai has not revealed the battery and powertrain specs of the Neira. It will most likely share its battery and powertrain with its Kia counterpart. In India, the Carens Clavis EV is offered in 2 battery pack options – 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The electric motor is mounted on the front axle and produces a maximum power output of 135hp on the 42kWh variants and 171hp on the 51.4kWh variants. The torque remains the same on all variants – 255Nm.

Final Thoughts

The Hyundai Neira EV is expected to go into production in late 2026 or early 2027. It could be released in the first quarter of 2026. More details are awaited in the coming months. Upon launch, it will rival the Kia Carens Clavis EV, BYD eMax 7, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6.
