Citroen eC3: Here’s how the electric hatchback performed at GNCAP

In the Adult Occupant Protection test, the Citroen eC3 scored 20.86 points out of a possible 34. The GNCAP report noted that during frontal impact, the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good but the protection offered to their chests was weak and poor respectively. The driver’s knees showed marginal protection while the protection offered to the passenger’s knees was good.

During side impact, the electric hatchback offered marginal protection to the head, adequate protection to the chest, and good protection to the abdomen and pelvis. GNCAP did not perform a side pole impact test on the eC3 as there is no availability of side head protection even as optional.

In the Child Occupant Protection test, the Citroen eC3 scored 10.55 points out of a possible 49. The report noted that the child seat for the 3-year-old was installed forward-facing using the adult seatbelt and could not prevent excessive forward exposure and head contact with the vehicle interior, earning the electric hatchback 0 points in dynamic for Q3 frontal crash. The side impact, however, showed full protection.

Alejandro Furas, Global NCAP Secretary General said, “This is an appalling result from Stellantis. PSA was once a leader on safety, but now, as part of the Stellantis group, the manufacturer appears to have taken a major backward step. We hope that this apparent negative trend is corrected globally as a matter of urgency.”
