Buyers face waiting periods of up to 3 months for Tata Curvv

Tata Curvv has proved to be a segment-defining car in India. Launched in August, the Curvv has carved out a special ‘crossover’ segment for itself. The all-electric version of the crossover was launched at a starting price of Rs 17.49 lakh in August while the ICE version was launched at Rs 9.99 lakh a month later. Since its launch, the crossover has seen a significant demand in the market. The automaker has already sold over 8,000 units of the coupe-SUV. Currently, buyers face a waiting period of 3 months for the Curvv.

Tata Curvv: Defining the segment

All variants of Tata Curvv EV demand a waiting period of up to 1 month. The entry-level Smart variant with a diesel-MT powertrain has a waiting period of just over 2 months. The Pure, Creative, and Accomplished diesel variants have a waiting period of 1 month. The 1.2L Turbo-Petrol-MT Smart variant demands the highest waiting period of 3 months. The Pure, Creative, and Accomplished variants have a 2-month waiting period. Finally, the manual and automatic variants of the 1.2L Hyperion engine have a waiting period of 2 and 3 months respectively.

The Tata Curvv EV is available in two battery pack options. The 45kWh variant offers a driving range of 502km and is available with the Creative, Accomplished, and Accomplished+ S trims. Meanwhile, the 55kWh variant has a driving range of 585km and is available with all trims except Creative. Both battery pack variants are powered by a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. However, the 45kWh variants produce a maximum power output of 150hp and the 55kWh variants put out 167hp. The torque output on all variants is 215Nm. The battery packs can be charged from 10-80% in under 40 minutes using a 70kW charger.

Tata Curvv ICE is available in 3 powertrain options. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder ‘Revotron’ petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm torque. The new 1.2-litre ‘Hyperion’ engine generates a maximum power output of 125hp and 225Nm torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 118hp. All three engines can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Conclusion

The Tata Curvv ICE is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 19 lakh. Meanwhile, prices for the Curvv EV start at Rs 17.49 lakh and go up to Rs 21.99 lakh. Since the crossover segment is in its nascency in India, Curvv has only one direct rival – Citroen Basalt. Its all-electric model rivals other EVs like MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400, and Tata Nexon EV.
