Toyota Innova Hycross teased, launch soon

Toyota has released a teaser image for its upcoming MPV Toyota Innova Hycross. The teaser image was posted by Toyota Indonesia across its social media handles. The MPV is expected to make its global debut next month. In India, the Hycross is expected to launch in early 2023. Maruti is also expected to come out with a hybrid MPV of its own, based on the same platform as the Hycross under the Toyota-Maruti Suzuki partnership.

Toyota Innova Hycross: What the teaser reveals

The teaser image posted by Toyota Indonesia gives a glimpse of the front fascia of the vehicle, revealing a hexagonal grille similar to the one in Toyota Corolla Cross. Also pictured is a sleep LED headlamp next to the upright grille. The creases on the bumper indicate a strong SUV-like design. The main headlamp will contain two L-shaped inserts for the LED lights. LED DRLs are also expected to come with the Toyota Innova Hycross.

From the teaser alone, it is clear that the Hycross will look nothing like the Toyota Innova Crysta. Toyota plans on selling the Hycross alongside the Innova Crysta. Recently, some spy shots of the Toyota Innova Hycross emerged online, featuring horizontal tail lamps and 10-spoke alloy wheels.

Toyota Innova Hycross will be sold in overseas markets under the name of Innova ‘Zenix’. Toyota will make the switch from ladder frame architecture to the monocoque chassis for the Hycross. The MPV will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. When it comes to dimensions, Toyota Innova Hycross will be 4.7 metres long and will have a wheelbase of 2,980mm. This will make it bigger than the Crysta.

Toyota also plans on ditching the diesel engine for Innova Hycross. The MPV will only be made available in petrol-hybrid variants, like the Urban Cruiser HyRyder. Although, unlike the HyRyder, the Toyota Innova Hycross will use a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It will also receive a localised version of the Toyota Hybrid System.

When it comes to features, buyers can expect the Hycross to be loaded with updated instruments and car tech. This includes a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, and more. The safety features will also be updated for the MPV.

Conclusion

With the Indian launch scheduled for 2023, more details are awaited in the coming months. It has now been confirmed that the Hycross will be rebadged for Maruti Suzuki in India. This will make it the first Toyota vehicle to be rebadged for Maruti ever since their partnership commenced in 2017. The Toyota Innova Hycross will rival Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Kia Carens.
