Tesla Model Y was launched in India back in July 2025. Initially, it garnered over 600 bookings, but a large portion of the reserved units did not translate into sales. Tesla ended the year with just 226 sales in India, after importing 300 units of the midsize SUV via the CBU (Completely Built Up) route.
The Model Y comes in 2 variants – Standard Range and Long Range. The former is equipped with a 64kWh battery pack. It has a WLTP-claimed driving range of 500km. The single electric motor mounted on the rear axle generates a maximum power output of 299hp.
The Long Range variant comes with a 84.2kWh battery, which offers a driving range of up to 661km (WLTP) on full charge. This variant is also powered by a rear-mounted single electric motor. It can go from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds. The Model Y is not available with an All Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration in India.
Inside, the electric SUV rocks a 15.4-inch floating central touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard and an 8-inch touchscreen entertainment display at the back. The powered front seats are equipped with heating and ventilation functions. Other features of the Model Y include ambient lighting, 8 exterior cameras, a panoramic glass roof, heated steering and windshield, connected car tech, powered rear AC vents, and more. The Autopilot function, developed by Tesla, demands a premium of Rs 6 lakh.
The Model Y comes in 6 exterior paint shades. The standard ‘Stealth Grey’ shade is the only one eligible for the Rs 2 lakh discount. The Pearl White Multicoat and Diamond Black colour schemes are available at an additional Rs 95,000. The Glacier Blue colour option fetches an extra Rs 1.25 lakh. Lastly, the Quicksilver and Ultra Red shades demand a premium of Rs 1.85 lakh. The all-black interior can be switched to a black-and-white theme for an extra Rs 95,000.
