Tesla Model Y: What’s new?

The Model Y comes in 2 variants in India – Standard and Long Range. The Standard variant is equipped with a 64kWh battery pack. It has a WLTP-claimed driving range of 500km. The single electric motor mounted on the rear axle generates a maximum power output of 299hp.

At the time of launch, the Long Range variant was packed with a 78.1kWh battery unit. The updated model rocks a larger 84.2kWh battery pack. As a result, the driving range of this variant has shot up to 661km (WLTP). It is also powered by a rear-mounted single electric motor. It can go from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds. The India-spec Model Y is not available with an AWD configuration.

No changes have been made to the Model Y’s instrumentation and feature list. It flaunts a large, 15.4-inch front central touchscreen and an 8-inch rear touchscreen. There are heating and ventilation functions for the powered front seats. Other features include ambient lighting, 8 exterior cameras, a panoramic glass roof, heated steering and windshield, connected car tech, powered rear AC vents, and more. Tesla’s signature autonomous driving feature, Autopilot, is available on the Model Y for an additional payment of Rs 6 lakh.

The design of the Model Y is clean and minimal. The front fascia is highlighted by a thin LED light bar running across the width of the SUV. The housings of the LED headlamps on the bumper are surrounded by air vents. The profile of the SUV reveals its sloping roofline, flush-sitting door handles, and 19-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels. At the back, the LED tail lamps share their design language with the DRLs up front.

The Model Y is available in 6 paint shades. Stealth Grey is the standard shade on offer, demanding no premium charges. The Pearl White Multicoat and Diamond Black shades demand an additional Rs 95,000. The Glacier Blue colour option fetches an extra Rs 1.25 lakh. Lastly, the Quicksilver and Ultra Red shades demand a premium of Rs 1.85 lakh. The all-black interior can be switched to a black-and-white theme for an extra Rs 95,000.
