Tata Punch ICE facelift in the works, 2025 launch confirmed

Key Highlights

  • The Tata Punch ICE facelift has been confirmed to launch in India in mid to late 2025.
  • The design of the compact SUV will be updated to match the new Tata SUVs.
  • It is expected to get a larger infotainment system, along with other feature upgrades.

After launching the all-electric Punch, Tata Motors is looking to upgrade the ICE version of the compact SUV. The automaker has confirmed that the Tata Punch ICE facelift will launch in mid-2025 or slightly later. The compact SUV was introduced in India back in October 2021. The typical period for a facelift is 3 years after launch, which means the SUV is due for an upgrade soon. Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming Punch.

2025 Tata Punch ICE facelift: Upgrades everywhere

The Tata Punch facelift is expected to follow the design language of the new crop of Tata SUVs. While it won’t look identical to its EV counterpart, it will get key cosmetic changes along the exterior. The grille of the SUV is expected to look like the one on the Nexon facelift. This grille will be flanked on either side by sleek LED DRLs. While the Punch EV has a sleek light bar running across the grille, the same isn’t expected for the ICE facelift of the SUV. The Nexon series has the same differentiating factor as well. The LED headlamps will be housed in the bumper. The bumper and bonnet design may receive minor tweaks as well. The SUV will get a dual-tone bumper at the back, like its EV counterpart.

The newly introduced Punch EV is decked with new features missing from the ICE variant. The facelifted Tata Punch ICE will bridge this divide, but we don’t expect it to be as feature-laden as the EV. Right now, the ICE variant of the SUV features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the all-electric Punch gets a 10.25-inch free-floating display. In its Nexon series of SUVs, Tata Motors offers a larger 12.3-inch display on the EV while the ICE model gets a 10.25-inch unit. Expect a proportional difference in the Punch series too. Features like disc braking for all four wheels and electronic parking brake may also be missing on the ICE Punch.

Things will remain the same under the hood as the Tata Punch facelift will get the same powertrain options as its outgoing model. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder engine petrol engine on the compact SUV produces a maximum power output of 85hp and 113Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed AMT. In a CNG configuration, the SUV produces 77hp and 97Nm. The Punch CNG is only available in manual transmission.

Conclusion

More details about the Tata Punch ICE facelift will be revealed in the coming months. On-road testing for the SUV will begin soon. Expect the facelift to cost a small premium over the outgoing model. Currently, prices for the Punch start at Rs 6 lakh and go up to Rs 10.10 lakh. The Punch EV is priced between Rs 10.99 lakh – Rs 14.49 lakh. Upon launch, the Punch facelift will rival the likes of the Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite, Citroen C3, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
