Tata Punch reached immense popularity in India soon after its launch in 2021. It took the SUV just 10 months to reach the 1 lakh sales landmark. The next 1 lakh sales came within 9 months, in May 2023. The next two 1 lakh sales milestones were reached in successive 7-month periods (December 2023 and July 2024).
Powering the Tata Punch is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder engine with Dynapro technology that is capable of producing a maximum power output of 85hp and 113Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed AMT. The SUV can go from 0-60 kph in a claimed 6.5 seconds and 0-100 kph in a claimed 16.5 seconds. In a CNG configuration, the 1.2-litre engine produces a maximum power output of 77hp and 97Nm of torque.
The Tata Punch EV, launched in January 2024, is available in two variants – Standard (25kWh battery, 315km range) and Long Range (35kWh battery, 421km range). The Long Range variants of the Tata Punch EV produce a maximum power output of 122hp and 190Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Standard variant puts out 82hp and 114Nm. The former can go from 0-100kmph in 9.5 seconds with the top speed capped at 140kmph. Meanwhile, the latter can accomplish the same feat in 13.5 seconds.
Speaking on this accomplishment, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Tata Motors has always been known for its deep understanding of the Indian consumer. This attribute enables us to create disruptive yet highly functional products. With the Punch, we not only introduced the Indian market to a new sub-segment but also successfully democratized the SUV attributes by offering a comprehensive package in a compact footprint. We are elated that the Punch has resonated so well with the Indian consumers and has progressively found a loyal customer base, who have become its biggest brand ambassadors. We take great pride in crossing this milestone and are confident that the next 1 Lakh will be achieved even faster.”
