Tata Motors celebrates monumental milestone
Tata Motors hit the 1 million production landmark back in 2004. The next million units of its passenger vehicles were produced by 2010, and it took only 5 more years to manufacture a million more units. Tata rolled out its 4 millionth car in 2020 and it took the automaker only three years to produce the next million units despite the Covid-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortage.
Commenting on this historic milestone, Mr Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “Today marks a celebratory moment in the history of Tata Motors as we celebrate our 5-million production mark milestone. This journey, from each million to the next, has been one replete with its fair share of ups and downs. We have been changing India with every new product intervention. Every Innovation was with the idea of building the nation. The brand is respected by its customers for bringing several new technologies and we express our gratitude for the tremendous support by our customers who have made this landmark achievement possible. We owe this milestone to our employees, suppliers, channel partners, government for their continued support. At Tata Motors, we remain committed to continuously innovate and be a leading stakeholder in moving the future of mobility ahead in India with safer, smarter and greener solutions.”
Over the decades, Tata has rolled out some category design passenger vehicles and has etched itself in the history books with some iconic models. These include the highly popular hatchback, Indica, and the brand’s most successful SUV to date, Tata Sumo. As on now, Tata boasts one of the most diverse car portfolios in India, with the largest EV lineup in the country.
With the EV segment still in its nascency in India, Tata has already taken a headstart over its competitors with its consistent range of products in every price bracket. The automaker currently has the most affordable electric car in the market in the form of the Tata Tiago EV, which starts at Rs 8.69 lakh. Tata Motors will also be launching the Sierra EV and Harrier EV by 2025.
