Tata Altroz EV: What to expect?

Tata’s new crop of EVs will be based on the ‘acti.ev’ platform that made its debut on the Punch electric SUV. The automaker will launch 5 EVs based on this platform by the end of 2025. This includes the newly launched Punch EV and the upcoming Curvv. Following the launch of Curvv EV, Tata will launch the Harrier EV at the end of 2024. Sierra and Altroz EVs have been scheduled for a 2025 release.

Not much is known about the specs and features of the Tata Altroz EV, but it is expected to feature a similar battery pack as the Punch EV. The all-electric Punch comes in two battery variants – Standard (25kWh) and Long Range (35kWh). The Standard variant has a driving range of 315km while the latter variant can go up to 420km on a single charge. There are two charging options as well – a 3.3kW wall charger and a 7.2kW fast charger. With a 50kW DC charger, the Tata Punch EV can be charged from 10-80% in 56 minutes.

Tata Altroz EV’s similarities with the Punch EV will continue in the power output department as well. The latter produces a maximum power output of 122hp and 190Nm of torque on the Long Range variant while the Standard variant of the electric SUV churns out 82hp and 114Nm. The former can go from 0-100kmph in 9.5 seconds with the top speed capped at 140kmph. Meanwhile, the latter can accomplish the same feat in 13.5 seconds.

The acti.ev platform which will underpin the Tata Altroz EV can support AWD, RWD, and FWD driving options. The electric Altroz will likely get a front-axle-mounted electric motor. It can also support DC fast charging up to 150kW. It can house multiple body structures capable of meeting GNCAP and BNCAP safety protocols. On top of that, it can also integrate Level 2 ADAS packages, elevating the security aspect of the vehicle it underpins. With 5G tech onboard, the EVs with acti.ev platform can also offer advanced network speeds.
