Next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan revealed globally

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the new third-gen Tiguan SUV. The Volkswagen Tiguan was unveiled globally earlier this week and is set to be launched next year. The new Tiguan gets significant cosmetic and mechanical changes. It remains to be seen when the SUV will go on sale in India.

Third-gen Volkswagen Tiguan: What’s on offer?

The new Volkswagen Tiguan stands at 4,539mm x 1,639mm x 1,842mm with a wheelbase of 2,680. While the width and wheelbase of the next-gen Tiguan remain the same as the outgoing model, it is now 30mm longer and 4mm taller than the previous-gen version. The SUV is underpinned by the MQB-Evo platform.

Inside, the new Volkswagen Tiguan get a completely revamped look. The new cabin is spacier and more premium than the previous-gen SUV. The dashboard has undergone a design change and now sports new AC vents and illuminated highlights. The Tiguan gets a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment as standard, with the top-spec variants getting a larger 15-inch unit. This infotainment system is accompanied by a 10.3-inch digital instrument display. The new centre console gets a dedicated rotary controller to switch between the driving modes, alter the volume, switch between the different ambient lighting profiles, and more.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan gets some significant changes under the hood. The SUV gets four powertrain options – 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel, 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid. The hybrid variant of the Tiguan gets a 19.7kWh battery pack that can power the SUV up to 100km. This hybrid powertrain is paired with a 6-speed DSG while the other engines can be paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, the next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan will be launched globally next year. It remains to be seen when the SUV will be introduced in the Indian market. The current-gen Tiguan rivals the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Jeep Compass.
