Skoda is gearing up to take the wraps off the next-gen Skoda Kodiaq next month. The automaker has released an exterior sketch of the vehicle ahead of its debut on October 4. Previously, the automaker had revealed the interior highlights and the powertrain specs for the next-gen SUV.

Next-gen Skoda Kodiaq: Everything we know so far

The new exterior sketches for the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq reveal an edgy grille with vertical slats at the front. Flanking this grille are split LED headlamps. Along the sides, the SUV gets squared-off wheel arches and now rests on 20-inch alloys, replacing the 17-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the D-pillar gets a dark chrome finish. The C-shaped tail lamps are connected by a light bar. The SUV will be longer than its outgoing counterpart, but its width and height will remain the same.

Inside, the new Skoda Kodiaq gets three physical knobs for temperature, seat ventilation, and volume control. The middle knob can carry out multiple tasks like switching between driving modes and controlling the fan speed. The SUV also gets a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster.

Skoda Kodiaq will be made available in five powertrain options – two petrol, two diesel, and one PHEV. The 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine can put out 150hp by itself. This engine is combined with a mild hybrid system and paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine can put out 204hp and 265hp, depending on the tuning. It gets a four-wheel drive.

The two diesel engines on the Skoda Kodiaq can generate a maximum power output of 150hp and 193hp. The higher output engine will get a four-wheel drive. The Plug-In Hybrid variant gets an electric motor powered by a 25.7kWh battery. Combined with the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine, it puts out 204hp. This variant of the Kodiaq will have an electric-only range of 100km.

Conclusion

Skoda also plans on unveiling the 4th-gen Superb alongside the 2nd-gen Kodiaq on October 4. It remains to be seen when the two next-gen Skoda offerings will be introduced in India. When launched in India, the Kodiaq will rival Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, and Toyota Fortuner.
