MG Motor India crosses 1 lakh EV sales landmark

MG Motor has announced that it has crossed the 1 lakh sales landmark for EVs sold in India. The ZS EV was the first all-electric offering from the automaker. It made its debut in 2020 and was the sole EV in the automaker’s portfolio until 2023, when it was joined by the urban commuter, Comet EV. MG Motor trails behind Tata Motors in EV sales, with the latter crossing the 2 lakh sales milestone in February 2025.

MG Motor: The story so far

MG Motor currently offers 5 all-electric cars in India. The EV portfolio of the automaker is divided into 2 categories. Its first mass market electric offering, ZS EV, was launched in 2020 and refreshed with a facelift model in March 2022. It is powered by a front-mounted single electric motor. This motor generates a maximum power output of 176hp and 280Nm. The 50.3kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 461km. It is rated IP69K for protection against dust and water. The EV can go from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds.

The ZS EV was joined by the compact Comet EV in April 2023. The urban commuter is equipped with an IP67-rated 17.3kWh battery pack. The 3.3kW home charger that comes with the EV can fully charge it in 7 hours. The 7.4kW charger, available with the Excite and Exclusive variants, can accomplish the same feat in 3.5 hours. The front-mounted single electric motor generates a maximum power output of 42hp and 110Nm of torque.

The Windsor EV, launched in September 2024, is the most recent offering in MG Motor’s mass market catalogue in India. The automaker launched the Pro model of the crossover in May 2025. The 38kWh battery pack on the standard model offers a driving range of 331km. Meanwhile, the Pro model packs a larger 52.9kWh battery pack that offers a 449km driving range on a full charge. Both models are powered by a front-mounted single electric motor that generates a maximum power output of 136hp and 300Nm of torque.

MG Motor sells its premium EV offerings under the Select banner. Currently, it retails 2 all-electric offerings, M9 EV and Cyberster. Both models were launched in India in July 2025. The M9 is available in a single, specced-out ‘Presidential Limousine’ trim. Its 90kWh battery pack can go up to 548km on a single charge. The front-mounted single electric motor generates a maximum power output of 245hp and 350Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, the Cyberster packs a 77kWh battery with a driving range of 444km. It is the only MG EV to be powered by dual electric motors. These motors produce a combined power output of 510hp and 725Nm of torque. The electric roadster can go from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds with its top speed capped at 201km/h. In foreign markets, it is also available with a 335hp-producing single-electric motor powertrain.

Final Thoughts

MG Motor currently occupies 35% of the EV market share in India. Its all-electric offerings account for 70% of its monthly sales. The automaker’s success in the EV market can be attributed to low costs brought about by the Battery as a Service (BaaS) ownership model. The Comet EV is one of the most affordable electric cars in India, with prices starting at Rs 6.24 lakh.
