Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door: What’s on offer?

The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny was spotted testing on numerous occasions last year. In terms of design, the 5-door Jimny isn’t all that different from its 3-door counterpart. The major difference is the vehicle size, with the 5-door Jimny being the visibly bigger vehicle out of the two, standing at dimensions of  3850mm x 1645mm x 1730mm with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm. The 3-door Jimny had a wheelbase of 2,250 mm.

The ‘boxy’ design of the SUV has been carried over to the rear doors as well. There’s also an additional quarter window at the end, which eats into some of the space for the rear window. Maruti Suzuki has retained the signature look of the Jimny by carrying forward the circular headlights, vertical slat grille, flared wheel arches and off-road tyres from the 3-door version. The SUV boasts the rugged look that buyers expect from a Jimny. At the back, Jimny retains the side opening door along with a spare wheel mounted on it.

Inside, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door doesn’t stray too far from its predecessor. It gets an all-black interior theme along with a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an Arkamys surround sound system. There’s a bench seat for the rear seating, making the Jimny a 5-seater. This may change for the overseas model. In terms of safety, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door gets 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential, ESP with hill hold assist, rearview camera, hill descent control, and ABS with EBD.

There are no changes under the hood as the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny retains the K15B petrol engine from its predecessor. This engine produces a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm peak torque. Maruti retaining the K15B petrol engine on the 5-door Jimny comes as a surprise as the automaker has been replacing it with the K15C engine across its catalogue. The 5-door Jimny has been made available with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options. It also receives Suzuki’s All Grip Pro AWD with low-range transfer gear (4L mode). The lifestyle SUV also gets a mild-hybrid configuration.

Conclusion

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is available in a total of seven colour options – five monotone and two dual-tone paint schemes. Maruti will reveal the pricing in May. We expect the 5-door Jimny to cost Rs 12-13 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival other lifestyle SUVs like the 5-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
