Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara gets AVAS, price hiked by Rs 4,000

Strong hybrid variants of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have been updated with Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS). As a result, prices for these variants have gone up by Rs 4,000. The presence of AVAS bumps up the pedestrian safety quotient of the vehicle. The Grand Vitara was launched in September 2022 at a starting price of Rs 10.45 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: New safety feature

The new AVAS feature on Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara creates a sound that alerts nearby pedestrians that a vehicle is approaching them. This sound can be heard within a range of 5 feet. AVAS is an important safety feature in Quiet Road Transport Vehicles (QRTV). The QRTVs include strong hybrid vehicles as well. 

Other features on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara include a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, and a Head Up Display (HUD). it also gets a panoramic sunroof, making it the first Maruti vehicle in India with that installation. The SUV shares some features with its Toyota cousin, HyRydyer, like the HVAC controls, cooling vents, steering design, and control switches.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes in two engine variants – a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. A choice of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed  torque converter automatic transmission is offered with the Vitara. The 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine generates a maximum power of 103hp with 137Nm peak torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine generates 92hp of power with a peak torque of 122Nm. This, coupled with the electric motor in the strong hybrid variant, generates a combined power of 115hp. The electric motor alone produces a maximum power of 80hp with 141Nm peak torque.

Conclusion

Prices for the strong hybrid variants of the Vitara start at Rs 18.29 lakh and go up to Rs 19.79 lakh. In India, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara rivals Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Citroen C3 Aircross, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder.
