Maruti Engage MPV to debut in India on July 5

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its all-new sever-seater premium MPV next month. Based on the new Innova HyCross, Maruti Engage will be unveiled on July 5. The Engage MPV is the most recent vehicle to be jointly produced under the Toyota-Suzuki global collaboration. After making its debut on July 5, the MPV will go on sale later that month.

Maruti Engage MPV: Here’s what we know so far

Maruti Engage will share its underpinning and powertrain with Toyota Innova HyCross. The two MPVs will differ when it comes to design and styling. Up front, Maruti Engage gets a new grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern. The wide grille on the MPV will also get some chrome highlights. Two horizontal chrome bars running across the grille will connect the headlamps. The design of the front and rear bumper will be tweaked as well. The LED DRLs on Engage will receive Maruti’s signature three-dot design, similar to the Grand Vitara and Baleno.

Maruti Engage MPV: Here’s what we know so far

As mentioned above, Maruti Engage will be underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. It will also get Toyota Innova HyCross’ powertrain. This means that the Engage will be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 152hp and 187Nm torque. This engine is paired with fifth-gen strong hybrid tech (M20A FXS) and can produce a combined power of 186hp. The non-hybrid variant produces 174hp and 197Nm. Maruti Engage’s mileage will be similar to that of HyCross, which puts out 21.2kmpl.

The Engage is the first Maruti car to be based on a Toyota product under the Maruti-Toyota global collaboration. Toyota has rebadged the Vitara Brezza as Urban Cruiser and Baleno as Glanza. In Europe, Suzuki rebadges Toyota’s RAV-4 and Corolla Wagon as A-Cross and Swace. Ciaz, Ertiga, and Celerio are also rebadged as Toyota cars in some foreign markets.

Conclusion

Prices for Maruti Engage will be revealed upon its launch next month. The Engage will undercut Innova HyCross in pricing. The Innova HyCross range starts at Rs 18.30 lakh and goes up to Rs 28.97 lakh. In India, Maruti Engage will rival Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carnival, and Toyota Innova HyCross.
