Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door spotted with a new front fascia

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is one of the most anticipated SUVs of 2024. The 5-door avatar of the lifestyle SUV has been spotted testing on numerous occasions since 2022. The latest series of spy shots suggest that the 5-door Thar will come with a new design at the front. The test mules that have been spied upon throughout this year were heavily covered with camouflage. This is the first time that the front fascia of the SUV has been somewhat revealed.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: What do the new spy shots suggest?

There are no radical changes on the front fascia of the 5-door Mahindra Thar, rather some subtle ones. The 6-slat grille now comes with 5 vertical slats with a horizontal bar in the middle. It looks inspired by the Wrangler and other Jeep offerings. Other than that, the 5-door Thar also receives new headlamps. It is not yet known whether Mahindra will offer LED lamps, but the new headlamp unit does have a projector setup. The positioning of the headlamps, DRLs, and other elements remains the same.

Earlier this week, we reported that the new Mahindra Thar 5-door will get a larger infotainment system unit inside. The current 3-door Thar comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display. The new Thar could get the same infotainment unit as the upcoming XUV300 facelift. It will also get a third seating row. Mahindra will also include a single pane sunroof with the 5-door Thar to bring it up to current standards.

The 5-door Mahindra Thar will be made available in 2 engine options – a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It will also come in a 2WD configuration like its 3-door counterpart. However, it won’t get the 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the entry-level variants of the 3-door Thar. The option of an automatic transmission will be reserved solely for 4×4 variants.

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will launch in early 2024. At its Independence Day event this year, Mahindra showcased an electric concept of the Thar. It remains to be seen when the Thar EV will go into production. Upon launch, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will rival the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the 5-door Force Gurkha.
